India’s stand-in captain during Australia’s tour Ajinkya Rahane landed amid a pool of praises after leading India to a historic win in Australia after sealing the Border Gavaskar Trophy. After the team’s disastrous show in Adelaide, where India saw its lowest ever in the Test series, Rahane handled the team brilliantly and won the next game in Melbourne. His stunning 100 at MCG was the cherry on the cake as it came in the utmost crunch situations.
However, it is a known fact that after his century at MCG, he has not been able to produce anything significant with the bat. India are up against England for the four-match Test series, where the 1st Test is almost coming to an end in Chennai. In the current series also, Rahane went back after scoring just one run in the first innings and a duck in the second inning. In the same light, India’s former batsman and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has expressed his opinions on his form.
“My issue with Rahane the captain is Rahane the batsman. After that 100 in Melbourne his scores are – 27*, 22, 4, 37, 24, 1 & 0. After a 100, class players carry their form & carry the burden of players out of form. #INDvENG,” Manjrekar tweeted.

India vs England current situation
Talking about the current match, India is reeling at 138 runs after the loss of six wickets (at the time of writing), and skipper Virat Kohli and spinner Ravi Ashwin are on the crease. In the race of chasing mammoth 420 runs, India would only be looking up for a draw as it is already the final day of the 1st Test. The toss was won by the visitors and from there, luck favoured them all the way and pushed India under pressure situations.
Talking about Rahane, he came to bat while Kohli was on the non-striker’s end, and on the very first ball, he dodged an lbw owing to the umpire’s call. However, James Anderson looked adamant in his motives and clean bowled him on the very next ball.
