Post-match press conferences can get mighty serious with journalists around the world hurling tricky questions. It goes without saying that players have to tackle the questions with all their intelligence. However, on a number of instances, pressers have also witnessed a number of hilarious moments. One of them came in the conference after New Zealand’s second Test against Pakistan.
Kane Williamson, the Black Caps’ skipper, was busy answering questions from the journos when the team’s wicketkeeper BJ Watling had a surprise in store for his captain. The 35-year-old Watling went up to Kane and asked him to sign his Test shirt. The 30-year-old Williamson didn’t let his teammate down and gave the autograph with a broad smile on his face.

Black Caps go atop
Even more than their 2-0 whitewash over Pakistan, the Kiwis had more reasons to cheer. The Williamson-led unit have gone to the top in the ICC Test rankings for the maiden time in their cricketing history. The Black Caps dethroned Tim Paine’s Australia, who are currently busy playing the four-match Test series against India, which is currently level at 1-1.
Captain Kane has shown riveting form, and his batting form has been decent as well. The Tauranga-born is currently ICC’s number-one ranked Test batsman over the likes of Steve Smith and Virat Kohli. Back in December, the right-hander scored 251 runs against the West Indies at the Seddon Park in Hamilton after which he took a leave to attend the birth of his child.
In the second Test, Kane scored a magnificent 238 in the first innings. He got the desired support from Henry Nicholls and Daryl Mitchell, who both scored centuries. In the opening Test at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui, the hosts got over the line in the final session of the fifth day after Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan and Fawad Alam showed some resistance.
In the second innings of the Christchurch Test, New Zealand bowled Pakistan out for 186 in the fourth innings. Kyle Jamieson’s five-wicket haul also contributed to their victory in the game. The hosts showed why they are the deserving no.1 team in the rankings.
