Australia had the travails after Steve Smith and David Warner were handed one-year suspensions. However, ever since the duo returned, the Aussies have started to show their class in the most traditional format, especially after the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales. To start with, Tim Paine and Co gave the Three Lions a run for their money in the Ashes, levelling the series 2-2.
It helped them retain the urn. Thereafter, Australia embarked on their journey at home. First, they won five T20I in a row against Sri Lanka and Pakistan respectively. The Aussies then went on to defeat Pakistan in the Test series by a margin of an innings. Paine’s men are currently taking part in a Test series against New Zealand and haven’t flattered to deceive by any means.

The opening match at the Perth Stadium in underway and Australia are on the driver’s seat with a couple of days left. At the end of the third day’s play, the Aussies are leading by a mammoth 417 runs with four wickets left in the second innings. The hosts scored 416 runs after which Mitchell Starc’s five-wicket haul shot the Black Caps out for a rather paltry 166 in 55.2 overs. ‘
Marnus Labuschagne scored 143 in the first innings followed by 50 in the second. The knocks have given the Aussies the upper hand. In the meantime, Michael Vaughan, the former England captain, reckons that other than India, no team has the potential to compete in Australian conditions.
He took to Twitter and wrote, “Only 1 Team in the World can compete in Aussie conditions against this Australian Team .. that’s #India .. No other team has the tools imo .. #AUSvNZ @FoxCricket,”

Last year, India toured Australia and won the Test series 2-1. The Aussies won in Perth, but Virat Kohli’s men came out trumps in Adelaide and Melbourne. Cheteshwar Pujara was on top of his game and racked up quite a few runs to help his team emerge victorious. It was a series where Australia didn’t have Warner and Smith in their ranks due to suspension.
