The outbreak of the coronavirus, cricket in England has got affected. The England team which was on its tour to Sri Lanka was called back. The team led by Joe Root was in the island nation for a two-match Test series. The matches were the part of the ICC Test Championship 2019-21. However, England only played the two practise matches after which ECB decided to cancel the tour.
Not just this, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has also suspended all professional cricket in the country till May 28. The decision comes after the spread of the coronavirus reached its height in Europe. However, no cricket has broken the spirits of the English Sporting Culture.
Joe Root has the most hilarious reaction to the scorecard of the virtual Test
As the two-match Test series has been cancelled, Sky Sports statistician Benedict Bermange is using a cricket simulation to play a virtual Test between Sri Lanka and England. On Friday, he posted the scorecard after the second day’s play on Twitter. “Root and Stokes batted out the day and England will feel happy as they go into day three of the Virtual Test just sixty runs behind, with seven wickets in hand” he tweeted.
Seeing this tweet, the England captain had the most hilarious response. Joe Root reminded the fans of something for which he is always criticised. He commented asking the odds of him getting out in the 70s which is often the case. He tweeted, “Odds on Root getting out in the 70’s……” Funnily enough, on the day three of the virtual Test, the Yorkshire batsman did actually get out without getting a century. He was dismissed for 95.

Root’s tweet is an indication to a criticism he often gets from experts of the game. In his Test career, the English captain has played 92 matches. Though he has scored 50+ scores 65 times, he has crossed the 100-run mark only 17 times. His conversion rate in Tests is one of the poorest if compared to other established players.
The 29-year-old has scored 7599 runs in Tests at an average of 48.40. The right-handed batsman has 16 ODI centuries and close to 6000 runs in the format.
