BCCI had started the Indian Premier League in 2008 to build a solid base for the Indian domestic players to come and showcase their talent to the world. Over the years, a lot of unknown names have become famous stars only because of their performances in the IPL.
The players like Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and many others have evolved by playing in the IPL. Besides, the teams also prefer unearthing the new talents because not only do the uncapped players play good cricket but they also allow the franchises to maximize their funds.
In this article, we will have a look at the one uncapped player from each team who may play every game in IPL 2020.
1. Rajasthan Royals – Shreyas Gopal
Indian leg-spinner, Shreyas Gopal has been one of the best spin bowlers in the domestic circuit however, the 26-year-old has never received a call-up to the national. Playing for Karnataka at the domestic level, Gopal has done several wonders with his leg-spin.
Talking about his numbers in the IPL, Shreyas has featured in 31 IPL games where he has scalped 38 wickets at a bowling average of 19.37. His economy rate of 7.50 shows that the leggie can keep the batsmen under control during the middle overs.
He was the best bowler for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2019 and though the franchise could not make it to the playoffs last year; the fans praised Gopal for his consistent performances. His spell against Royal Challengers Bangalore was one of the best spells of the tournament.
2. Kings XI Punjab – Krishnappa Gowtham
The team management of Kings XI Punjab needs to be lauded for forming one of the most destructive batting lineups of the tournament. With the likes of Chris Gayle, KL Rahul, Nicholas Pooran and Glenn Maxwell in the team, all the bowlers will relish bowling against Punjab.
Apart from the top names present in their squad, there is an uncapped star who would be the center of attraction among the fans. He is Karnataka’s all-rounder, Krishnappa Gowtham. KXIP bought the off-spinner from RR during the trade window.
Gowtham had made a big impact in IPL 2018 however, his numbers dipped in the year 2019. He has played 22 matches in his IPL career where he has amassed 144 runs at a strike rate of 173.49. Besides, he has also taken 12 wickets hence, he will be the ‘X-factor’ of Kings XI Punjab.
3. Sunrisers Hyderabad – Virat Singh
Sunrisers Hyderabad were silent for a major part of the auction but, they made some interesting purchases which include Virat Singh, Mitchell Marsh and Priyam Garg. These buys show that Sunrisers Hyderabad had a weak middle-order prior to the auction.
The Orange Army had released the duo of Yusuf Pathan and Deepak Hooda thus, they needed an Indian name who could fill in the gap. Virat is the best candidate to play in Hyderabad’s middle order as he can wreak havoc with his left-handed batting skills.
The Bihar-born star had made a name for himself while playing for Jharkhand in the domestic circuit. He has played 56 T20s in his career, scoring 1,552 runs at an average of 35.27. Singh has hit 45 sixes in T20 matches which showcase his big-hitting power.
4. Delhi Capitals – Avesh Khan
The Delhi Capitals have a stacked Indian contingent in all the departments apart from the pace bowling one. Ishant Sharma, Avesh Khan and Mohit Sharma are the major Indian names present in their fast bowling attack for IPL 2020.
Assuming that Delhi will opt to have Kagiso Rabada in the team, they will look to have at least two of the three Indian pacers available. Last year, Trent Boult was with the team but this year they do not have an overseas fast bowler who could support Rabada.
Thus, Delhi will have to play a minimum of two Indian pace bowlers and Ishant Sharma is bound to be their first choice after his performances in IPL 2019. Avesh Khan would take up the second spot because he is in better touch as compared to Mohit Sharma.
5. Kolkata Knight Riders – Nitish Rana
Nitish Rana has been one of the few superstars who has impressed with his batting performances in the Indian Premier League yet he has not made his international debut for India till now. He will once again don the Purple and Gold jersey in IPL 2020.
The Delhi-born batsman has played 46 IPL matches in his career where he has scored 1,085 runs at an average of 28.55. He has struck 84 fours and 60 sixes in the IPL history which showcase the unique talent that the 26-year-old batsman possesses.
He can even bowl a few overs of right-arm off-spin in the middle thus, he has proven to be a valuable asset for the Kolkata Knight Riders. The cricket universe can expect Rana to continue his dominance over the bowlers in IPL 2020 as well.
6. Royal Challengers Bangalore – Devdutt Padikkal
The Kerala-born left-handed batsman who has made a name for himself while playing for Karnataka at the domestic level, Devdutt Padikkal is most likely to make his IPL debut in 2020 for the 3-time runners-up, Royal Challengers Bangalore. The opening batsman would open the innings with Aaron Finch.
Talking about his extraordinary performances in the T20 format, Padikkal has played 12 T20 matches at the domestic level where he has scored 589 runs at an average of 64.44. Besides, he has scored these runs at a magnificent strike rate of 175.75.
The fact that he has hit 1 century and 5 fifties in his brief T20 career proves that he is a special talent and if used properly by Mike Hesson and Simon Katich, Devdutt could even inspire Royal Challengers Bangalore to their first title in IPL 2020.
7. Chennai Super Kings – Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore
Chennai Super Kings pulled off the steal deal of this year’s auction by signing domestic spinner Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore at his base price of 20 lakhs INR. The fans may not know much about him but the left-arm spinner had troubled the batsmen with his skills in the domestic circuit.
Playing for Tamil Nadu at the domestic level, Sai Kishore has scalped 25 wickets in 22 T20 matches with his best figures being 4/6. He has an economy rate of 5.45 in T20 cricket which shows why he is so highly rated at the domestic level. Also, his bowling strike rate is 18.40.
Apart from the domestic cricket, Sai had also impressed with his performances in the Tamil Nadu Premier League. Given that MS Dhoni knows the art of unearthing new talents, expect Kishore to realize his full potential in the upcoming IPL season.
8. Mumbai Indians – Suryakumar Yadav
Perhaps, the best-uncapped performer in IPL over the last few years, Suryakumar Yadav will play for his home franchise, Mumbai Indians in IPL 2020. The right-handed batsman was retained by the team management because of his consistency in the previous IPL seasons.
Shedding some light on his IPL record, the former Kolkata Knight Riders star has played 85 games where he has aggregated 1,544 runs in 71 innings. His highest score in 72 while the 29-year-old batsman has registered seven half-centuries in the league.
With some big names like Chris Lynn, Quinton de Kock, Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard present in Mumbai Indians’ batting lineup, Yadav will look to continue his fine form in the IPL by performing the anchor’s role to perfection in the batting department.
