Pakistan cricketer Taufeeq Umar has recovered from the Coronavirus after being tested positive two weeks ago. The country has so far registered more than 93,000 positive cases with almost 2000 people losing their lives. With overall cases in the world going past 67 lakhs, Umar has advised people to take the virus seriously and follow the required guidelines to stay safe.
Pakistan lost two of its former first-class cricketers, Riaz Sheikh and Zafar Sarfaraz, earlier this week who were found positive for the virus. However, Taufeeq Umar isolated himself from his family for two weeks after he was contracted from the Coronavirus and has recovered fully. He himself informed the media about the same stating that everyone should take it seriously and also work on building a strong immune system.
“I would urge everyone to take care of themselves and take this Covid-19 seriously. Social distancing and safety measures are a must for everyone. I isolated myself in a room for two weeks away from the children and elderly people in my family. I would say people should not be alarmed if they test positive. I would advise them to work on building up their immune system,” he was quoted as saying by India TV.
Taufeeq Umar’s international career
As far as Taufeeq Umar’s international career is concerned, he played 44 Tests and 22 ODIs for Pakistan. He was always in and out of the national team and for the same reason, he couldn’t play many matches for his country despite making his international debut in 2001.
The southpaw, who is currently a member of the national junior selection committee, amassed 2963 runs at an average of 38 with 7 centuries which also included a double-ton. Unfortunately, he couldn’t shine in the ODIs as desired and mustered only 504 runs in 22 matches with three half-centuries. Taufeeq Umar last played for Pakistan in November 2014 against New Zealand in Dubai and had returned with the scores of 16 and 4 in his last two knocks.
