Pat Cummins, the right-handed fast bowler from Australia, has certainly emerged as one of the best bowlers across the globe in the longer format. His name recently hogged the spotlight after he was bought Kolkata Knight Riders at a whopping fee of INR 15.5 Crore for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. There are reports that he might take a short break following his hectic schedule since the commencement of the World Cup.
The right-arm pacer has been continuously playing for Australia since the mega-event. Currently, he has bowled the most overs in comparison to any international bowler and fortunately he didn’t sustain any injury during his tough schedule. He has played 28 Tests, 58 ODIs and 25 T20Is in which he grabbed 262 wickets across all the formats. As per the reports, he might take a break from cricket after three-match ODI series against Team India that will begin from the 14th of January 2020.
Pat Cummins wants a short break from competitive cricket
Cummins had a big opportunity to play for Sydney Thunder in the latter part of the Big Bash League 2019-20. However, he opted out of the tournament and Cricket Australia supported him well in his decision. Recently, Shane Bond, the head coach of Sydney Thunder said that he will invite the Aussie pacer for a couple of games but it will be his call to take whether he wants to play or not.
He also recited the fact that Cummins is a great personality and having him around in the team is always a treat for other players. He did well for Thunder in the previous season and the team will feel his absence in the ground. However, everyone respects his decision to take a break but if he wants to come back, the doors are always open for him.
“We’re hoping he comes in and buys us pizza. I’ll definitely be inviting him in (to the changerooms) for a few games, it’s his shout. He’s a great man, he is great around our team. He was great for us (in previous seasons) and we respected the fact that he needs a break. We just said if he wanted to come back he was always welcome here,” Thunder coach Shane Bond said as quoted Cricket.com.au.
