Earlier, many top teams didn’t express their interest to tour Pakistan ever since the attack on a Sri Lankan bus back in 2009. Since then, Pakistan have long been playing home games at a neutral venue in the UAE (Abu Dhabi and Dubai). Recently, things took a U-turn for Pakistan as cricket returned to the nation. Even several Pakistani players took to their official social media handles to express their happiness over the positive development.
On December 11, Pakistan hosted its first Test in a decade in Rawalpindi against Sri Lanka. Even as there was an excitement, rain played spoilsport in a five-day match reducing the game to only two days. Both teams had to settle for a draw. After hosting Sri Lanka at home, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is positive about inviting other international teams to play bilateral series with Pakistan in their own den.
PCB aims to host bilateral series with South Africa
Pakistan Cricket Board is now looking forward to hosting bilateral series with South Africa. It is cognisance of the fact that red and white-ball cricket has already returned here PCB is giving absolutely everything to invite South Africa. Pakistan Cricket Board CEO Wasim Khan is holding talks with Cricket South Africa (CSA) and the fans might expect a T20I series between the two teams in March next year.
When Imran Khan was asked whether the bilateral talks between the two cricket bodies have been ignored, the PCB CEO added that apex cricket board is confident that South Africa will tour Pakistan next year.
“In fact, they have responded very positively to our invitation and we are pretty confident they will come over for the T20 series. Our main priority is to ensure that Test and international cricket is now played regularly in Pakistan and teams have no problems coming here,” he added as reported by Hindustan Times.
Pakistan has plenty of problems to sort out at the moment. Sri Lanka whitewashed the hosts Pakistan in the T20I series by 3-0 and after which, Sarfaraz Ahmed was sacked from captaincy. Following the humiliation at the hands of Sri Lanka, Pakistan toured Australia and showed no teeth in their approach.
They lost the T20I series and the Test series before returning home to play Test series against Sri Lanka. The first Test ended in a most unexpected way and the series is still alive with the second Test scheduled to be played at National Stadium, Karachi on December 19.
