The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to persuade the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for a solitary Test match. As per the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Future Tour Programme, Bangladesh are scheduled for three T20Is and a couple of Tests in Pakistan in January-February. But later, it was learned that the Tigers’ cricketers had their apprehensions over the tour.
There were talks over the Tests taking place at the neutral venue. But the PCB ruled out any chances for the same. Nazmul Hasan Papon, the BCB chief, said that the Bangladesh government has given permission for the tour only for a short period. The same was keeping in mind the tensions in the Middle East between Iran and the United States.
“The current state in the Middle East is definitely different than other times. So, considering escalating tension in that particular region, they (the government) have told us to keep the tour as short as possible,” Papon mentioned.
Ehsan Mani to have a chat with Nazmul Hasan
Earlier Papon also stated that none of the Bangladesh cricketers would be forced to travel to Pakistan. Even after the security clearance, the players will be asked about their opinion on whether they wish to visit the nation or not.
For the one Test match, Ehsan Mani, the PCB chief, would be having talks with Nazmul Hasan. “Mani will also seek a commitment from Hassan when Bangladesh will come and play the second Test in Pakistan,” the source was quoted as saying in Cricket Next.
The PCB wishes for Bangladesh to play the Tests as the matches are part of the ICC Test Championship. Papon said that he would be travelling to Dubai on Monday to have a discussion with Shashank Manohar, the chairman of the apex cricket board.
Last year, Sri Lanka toured Pakistan for an ODI, Test and T20I series and the visitors were pretty satisfied with the security arrangements. Test cricket returned to Pakistan after more than a decade with the matches taking place in Rawalpindi and at the National Stadium in Karachi. For the time being, more details on Bangladesh’s tour of Pakistan remain to be seen.
