Prithvi is often regarded as India’s next Sachin Tendulkar, thanks to the blossoming of his batting brilliance at an early age. But Prithvi Shaw’s run in recent times has not been satisfactory because of injury and other controversies. He made a phenomenal international debut last year by slamming a Test hundred but hasn’t featured in more than one series so far. On Wednesday, Prithvi hit the third fastest double-century in Ranji Trophy for his team Mumbai against Baroda.
Coming into the Ranji Trophy game in which he hit the double ton in only 174 balls, Prithvi revived his chances of making a national comeback. The 20-year-old scored three fifties in five matches in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament recently, hence giving hint about his touch at the moment.
The double hundred at once saw Prithvi putting behind the recent doping suspension and former India chief selector Kiran More advocated the youngster’s return to the Test squad “right away”.
Kiran More sees young Sachin Tendulkar in Prithvi Shaw
Penning his thoughts on Prithvi in his column for The Indian Express said, the former India wicket-keeper said: “Whenever I watch him, the young Sachin Tendulkar comes to my mind. This fearless brand of batting is common between the two.”
“You look at him bat and you know that he is thinking ahead. That’s how greats like Tendulkar, Brian Lara and Virender Sehwag batted, they pick line very early and are in position to hit the ball.”
Prithvi’s 202 bettered his previous best score of 188 in first-class cricket and it featured 19 fours and seven sixes.
“He (Prithvi) is a batsman with a very evolved template. Bilkul paka hua player hai (He’s a finished product). I look at him and think he is even good enough to face the bowling greats of the 1990s. It looks like the pitch doesn’t matter to him. Even in this game, till the time he was batting, the pitch looked so easy,” More wrote.
Prithvi was picked for the Indian squad that toured Australia last year. However, an ankle injury on the eve of the first Test match in Adelaide saw him going out of the series that India won. The young cricketer also reportedly faced disciplinary issues and had a couple of sessions with Tendulkar.
