Lahore Qalandars made it to the final of Pakistan Super League for the first time as they earned a 25-run win over the Multan Sultans during the 2nd Eliminator. After a steady start, the Qalandars lost their way by losing three wickets in three overs but were rescued by David Wiese’s unbeaten 21-ball 48. Chasing 183 to win, the Multan franchise got 63 runs in the powerplay as Adam Lyth scored 50 in only 29 balls. The dismissal of Lyth in the 9th over twisted the game into Lahore’s hands as Sultans got bowled out for 157 after losing their last nine wickets for 77 runs.
Here are all the statistical highlights from Lahore Qalandars’ 25-run victory during MUL vs LAH:
Table-toppers crash out early:
2 – Multan Sultans became only the second team in five PSL seasons to not qualify for the final despite finishing at the top during the league phase of the same edition. Peshawar Zalmi missed out similarly in the inaugural 2016 edition where they lost both the qualifying finals.
Wiese’s all-round show:
1 – David Wiese became the first player in the history of Pakistan Super League to achieve the treble of 30+ runs, 3+ wickets and 1+ catches during a match. Wiese scored an unbeaten 48 before taking a 3-wicket haul and also one catch during MUL vs LAH.
228.57 – David Wiese’s unbeaten 48 off 21 balls came at a strike rate of 228.57 which is the 3rd best in a PSL inning of 20+ balls for Lahore Qalandars. Ben Dunk had a strike rate of 247.5 during his unbeaten 40-ball 99 earlier this year against Karachi Kings while Umar Akmal scored 93 off 40 against Quetta Gladiators in 2016 at a strike rate of 232.5.
Haris @ 50 wickets in 2020:
50 – Haris Rauf became the first player to pick 50 wickets in the Twenty20 format in 2020. Before Rauf’s 3-wicket haul during the MUL vs LAH game, Rashid Khan was the leading wicket-taker in T20s in 2020 with 48 wickets. Shaheen Shah Afridi also levelled with Rashid in this list having added two wickets to his tally of 46 T20 wickets in 2020 during the 2nd Eliminator.
Dunk equals Kamran’s record:
4 – Ben Dunk became only the 2nd player in the history of Pakistan Super League to affect as many as four dismissals in a match. Kamran Akmal also had four dismissals during the inaugural edition match against Lahore Qalandars for Peshawar Zalmi. Both Kamran and Dunk claimed four catches apiece in their respective instances.
Tanvir’s expensive spell:
1/52 – Sohail Tanvir became the first player in the PSL to concede 50+ in a match while representing the Multan Sultans. This was also the first instance in PSL where Tanvir gave away 50 or more runs in a PSL game.
Individual milestones during MUL vs LAH:
1037 – Fakhar Zaman became the first player to aggregate 1000+ runs in the Pakistan Super League for the Lahore Qalandars. When Fakhar went past his individual score of 9 during MUL vs LAH, he became just the 7th player to reach 1000 PSL runs. Mohammad Hafeez, later became the 8th player to the milestone as he reached the 1000-run mark with the 19 runs he scored during MUL vs LAH.
6 – Samit Patel completed 5000 runs in the Twenty20 format when he reached his individual score of 15. With that milestone, Samit became only the 6th player in Men’s T20s to complete the double of 5000+ runs and 200+ wickets.
100 – The wicket of Ben Dunk was the 100th in Twenty20 cricket for Shahid Afridi via ‘bowled’. Afridi thus became only the 4th player with 100+ ‘bowled’ wickets in the T20 format. Lasith Malinga (152), Wahab Riaz (111) and Rashid Khan (106) are the other players to achieve this feat before Afridi.
