Karachi Kings began their title defence in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 with a thumping 7-wicket win over Quetta Gladiators. It was a thorough all-round performance from the Babar Azam-led side as they dominated with both bat and ball to beat Gladiators with ease. Bowling first, the Kings bowled out the Gladiators for a paltry 121.
With the bat, they overhauled the target without any trouble, crossing the finishing line in less than 14 overs by losing just three wickets. High-flying Karachi Kings would be hoping that their good start to the season continues when they take on Islamabad United on Wednesday (February 24) in the sixth match of PSL 2021.
Here is Karachi Kings’ predicted XI for their game against Islamabad United:
Openers (Sharjeel Khan, Babar Azam)
In the low-scoring affair against Quetta Gladiators, Karachi Kings openers – Sharjeel Khan and Babar Azam – had failed to score big. Khan started well by dispatching Mohammad Hasnain for a four before being dismissed by the bowler in the very first over. Babar, on the other hand, got the start but endured a rare failure as he failed to convert it into a big score.
The Pakistan skipper was out for 24. Karachi would be hoping that their skipper and Sharjeel deliver today against Islamabad whose bowling lineup boasts some good bowlers especially in-form fast-bowler Hasan Ali.
Middle-order batsmen (Joe Clarke (wk), Colin Ingram, Mohammad Nabi)
Karachi Kings’ middle order put up a fine performance in the last game. The trio of Joe Clarke, Colin Ingram and Mohammad Nabi ensured that their team didn’t slip in the low-scoring game by delivering assured performances. Clarke led the charge with the bat by playing a fine knock of 46 off just 23 balls with the help of 6 fours and three sixes.
Ingram and Nabi then shared an unbeaten stand of 39 runs to take the Kings home. Ingram remained unbeaten on 17 while Nabi remained unbeaten on 30.
All-rounders (Imad Wasim (c), Daniel Christian)
Karachi Kings’ all-rounders didn’t have much to do with the bat but they made their mark with the ball. Skipper Imad Wasim gave Karachi a solid start by dismissing the dangerous Tom Banton in the very first over. He, however, failed to take any more wickets and was also expensive, giving away 31 runs off his four overs.
Just like, Imad, Daniel Christian did not get a chance to bat either. With the ball, he bowled just two overs and conceded only 12 runs. The Australian veteran also picked up the prized scalp of the dangerous Chris Gayle.
Bowlers (Aamer Yamin, Mohammad Amir, Waqas Maqsood, Arshad Iqbal)
Karachi Kings’ bowlers played a big role in their team’s win over Quetta Gladiators as all four of their specialist bowlers – Aamer Yamin, Mohammad Amir, Waqas Maqsood, and Arshal Iqbal – were among the wickets. Iqbal was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3 for 16 off his four overs while Maqsood picked up two wickets. Amir and Yamin, on the other hand, picked up one each.
