England cricketer Tom Banton who is part of Quetta Gladiators in currently going PSL, has tested positive for COVID-19. The authorities of PSL were already dealing with a massive blow after some cases of COVID-19 popped up in the camp, and further entrants in the list have worsened the situation. Just before a game was about to begin between Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators, veteran leggie Fawad Alam tested positive for the deadly virus, and it created a stir in the camp.

The match got delayed by 24 hours, and authorities decided to get RT-PCR tests done for all the members of the PSL. At that point, it was learned that two more overseas players and a staff member have tested positive. However, Banton came up with a tweet wherein he himself talked about getting tested positive, and it has further messed up the matter.

“Thanks a lot for all the messages and well wishes. Unfortunately, I received a positive COVID-19 test yesterday, and I am not isolating and following the PSL protocols. Fortunately, I am feeling OK so far, and I have been well looked after by the PCB and Quetta Gladiators. Thanks for the support. Look after yourselves and stay safe,” Banton tweeted.

It was earlier thought that PSL 2021 would get delayed at least by a week, but PCB was firm enough to clear that matches will go on as per schedule. The matches wouldn’t be called off until five members of the total 18-member squad of the team have tested positive for the novel virus.

“The organizing committee has already sent out a reminder to every stakeholder to exercise extra caution, and nobody is told to go in self-isolation, just a caution that involves using a face mask, avoid wandering on the hotel floor, and members who have tested positive will remain in ten days’ quarantine.
