There was a lot of expectations from England’s Jofra Archer on the two-match Test series versus New Zealand. The speedster cranked up the pace in the 2019 World Cup and also spewed venom in the Ashes a few months back. However, he ended up having a rather tough time in the land of the Kiwis. He could only manage a couple of wickets, giving away 209 runs in the series.
But there wasn’t any lack of energy from the Barbados-born fast bowler. He cranked up the pace and threatened to ruffle a few feathers. Archer has also smacked the likes of Alex Carey, Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne on the helmet. Kane Williamson, the Black Caps’ skipper, almost bore the brunt of the pacer in the second and final Test of the series at the Seddon Park in Hamilton.
Jofra Archer bowls a vicious bouncer to Williamson
Archer churned out a deadly bouncer at the opposition skipper, but Kane was pretty equal to the task. He kept his eyes on the ball and made sure that he sways away from the line of the delivery without much fuss. Archer’s bouncers are generally well directed at the body, so much so that it got Steve Smith concussed during the Lord’s Test in August. Luckily, Kane evaded the delivery.
In the meantime, Rajasthan Royals, for whom Jofra Archer plays in the Indian Premier League (IPL) took a funny jibe at Captain Kane. The Royals’ Twitter handle wrote. “Too close for comfort, Kane?”

SRH wasn’t going to let go the Royals without a reply. They compared Kane’s reaction to the bumper with the legendary English footballer, David Beckham. The Sunrisers’ official Twitter handle wrote, “Bend it like B̶e̶c̶k̶h̶a̶m̶ Kane,”

Unlike Archer, Kane had an impressive series with the bat. In the first Test at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui, he managed 51 runs in New Zealand’s victory by an innings and 65 runs. He floundered in the first innings of the Hamilton Test, having gotten only four runs. However, he came into his own in the second, scoring an unbeaten 104 that helped his team draw the match.
