Ravi Ashwin made the headlines in the 2019 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). It was more because of the controversies that he got involved into rather than his numbers on the field. It was in the early days of the tournament when the Tamil Nadu cricketer was a recipient of severe backlash from the netizens. It happened in the match between Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals.
At the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, Ashwin resorted to ‘Mankading’ Jos Buttler at the non-striker’s end. In his run-up, Ashwin saw the batsman outside his crease. In a bid to take advantage of the situation, he took off the bails at the non-striker’s end and appealed. Buttler was left a bit surprised by what panned out. In the end, the Royals’ opening batsman had to walk off.
Ravi Ashwin replies
He was dejected and frustrated with Ashwin’s antics in the middle. The Punjab franchise, led by Ashwin, won the match, but the skipper had to face the heat for the dismissal. Buttler also got support from plenty of support from the former cricketers. In the meantime, Glenn McGrath, the former Australian bowler, was asked if he would ever go for the infamous dismissal.
Replying to it, McGrath said a No. Ashwin somewhat disagreed with ‘The Pigeon’. He wrote, “Dear sir, Glen McGrath is one of the greatest bowlers to have played the game and I greatly respect his answer for the question but to tell me that it’s the only right answer is wrong on your part.”
Then one of the fans added more fun to the conversation. The user asked Ashwin whether he would be going for the same tactics even in the future. The user took to Twitter and wrote, “Can’t wait to see another mankad from you Ash,”
Ashwin had a rather witty reply to the same. Ashwin reverted to the supporter and wrote, “Imagine the euphoria that will surround me after that,”

After the last edition, Ashwin was traded to the Delhi Capitals (DC) for the upcoming edition of the T20 tournament. In 2018 and 2019, he played for the Punjab team, but failed to take them to the playoffs on both instances.
