The Border-Gavaskar trophy is now leveled at 1-1. The third Test of the series will be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) and both Australia and India will be looking to get a good grip of things moving ahead in the series which could possibly be the decider if the third Test yields a result anything other than a draw.
Currently, Team India is having an upper hand in the series having won the previous match despite not having the services of Virat Kohli and Mohammed Shami. India could figure out the leadership approach of the current skipper Ajinkya Rahane and also the debutants Mohammed Siraj and Shubman Gill started on a promising note.
Apart from the debutants, the bowling unit has clicked well on whole. On the contrary former Indian spinner, Pragyan Ojha termed the Indian spinner Ravi Ashwin as the ‘bowling captain’ of the current Test side. He also lauded Ashwin to have performed on almost all around the globe irrespective of the conditions he’s bowling in.
“Ravichandran Ashwin is not worried about alien conditions” – Pragyan Ojha
“Ashwin knows exactly what he wants to do. He’s not a rookie anymore. He has been to Australia and now he doesn’t have to play for his spot. That’s the most important thing for a player. Once you don’t have the fear of getting dropped from the team over poor performance, then your body language changes. You have a little bit of cushion to do certain things. That’s what is making a lot of difference for Ashwin and with the role, he is playing now. On the field, he is the bowling captain,” said Ojha as quoted by Sports Today.
In Virat Kohli’s absence, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravi Ashwin have done a brilliant job in stepping up and taking responsibility for the bowling unit as a whole. Ravi Ashwin is currently the highest wicket-taker for India in the ongoing Test series and has scalped Steve Smith already twice for single-digit scores in the series. India will be playing the third Test starting from the 7th of January at the Sydney Cricket ground (SCG).
