The country is taken aback by the shocking death of VG Siddhartha, the founder of India’s largest homegrown coffee chain Cafe Coffee Day (CCD). The body of the billionaire coffee tycoon, also the son-in-law of former Karnataka chief minister SM Krishna, was found on the banks of Nethravathi River in Mangaluru on Wednesday.
The location was five kilometres from the bridge where the 60-year-old was last seen on Monday morning. Before his death, Siddhartha had apologised to the people who “put their trust” in him and even said he “failed to create the right profitable business model despite his best efforts”.
The country mourned this shocking death of a man who had a reputation both as a human being and industry captain and condolences poured in from all quarters. The cricketing fraternity was no exception and ace India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also expressed his shock and recalled his first memory of the CCD – a popular chain, particularly among the youth. The chain was started in the mid-1990s.
In a tweet, the 32-year-old cricketer said his first-ever memories of going out with friends and having a cup of coffee had happened at the CCD. “Sad news #RIPSiddhartha #cafecofeeday,” Ashwin added in his tweet.

Ashwin is currently playing Tamil Nadu Premier League
Ashwin, who recently had a successful three-match county stint for Nottinghamshire, is currently leading the Dindigul Dragons in Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) in Tirunelveli in his home state Tamil Nadu. Just recently, he found himself in the middle of another ‘Thala-Thalapathy’ controversy featuring fans of Ajith and Vijay – the two superstar actors of the Tamil film industry.
A Kollywood film buff himself, Ashwin didn’t like Ajith fans starting spreading Vijay’s death hoax on Monday morning by trending the hashtag #RIPactorVijay. Vijay’s fans hit back by putting into use the hashtag #LongLiveVijay.
There was an asteroid that missed hitting our planet a few days ago, irregular monsoons hitting different cities, droughts in many parts of our country and very disturbing criminal cases being spoken, but the young generation of our lovey state manage to trend this #RIPactorVIJAY

Ashwin posted a tweet saying the “young generation of our lovely state” was busy trending #RIPactorVijay when there are some serious problems the country is facing. Ashwin will be playing for India in the West Indies later this month when the two-Test series begins. He is eight wickets short of completing 350 in the long format.
