Every year IPL auction brings a lot of hopes for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) fans as they eagerly wait for some stellar additions in the RCB squad that can help the team in winning their first title. This year was no different as the team retained just 12 players while releasing as many as 10 players that included some notable names like Aaron Finch, Chris Morris and Moeen Ali.
The Bangalore outfit also made some investment before the auction by trading Harshal Patel and Daniel Sams from Delhi Capitals (DC). After all the retention and trading, RCB was left with a purse of whopping INR 35.7 crore and maximum 11 slots to fill including three overseas slots.

IPL 2021 buys
One of the major highlights of the whole auction event was Royal Challengers adding Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell in their squad by shelling out a whopping INR 14.25 crore. This was definitely an unexpected move considering the poor form of Maxwell in IPL 2020. This can prove to be a masterstroke for Challengers as it will lessen the burden of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. Maxwell is capable of applying the finishing touches to the innings while chipping in few overs with the ball.
However, Maxwell was not the most expensive buys for RCB as they included New Zealand’s seamer Kyle Jamieson in their squad by spending a massive amount of INR 15 crore. After releasing pacers like Umesh Yadav, Chris Morris, Isuru Udana and Dale Steyn, RCB was in dire need of a good death-ball bowler and they might have hit a jackpot in the form of Jamieson.
Apart from Jamieson and Maxwell, RCB was successful in acquiring the services of Rajat Patidar, Sachin Baby, Mohammed Azharuddeen, Dan Christian, KS Bharat, Suyash Prabhudessai.
