With the coronavirus pandemic wreaking havoc all across the globe, Bollywood star Ranveer Singh, on Friday, announced that the release of his much-awaited film ’83 has been postponed. Directed by Kabir Khan, the movie narrates former India captain Kapil Dev‘s career as well as how he led India to a miraculous World Cup win in 1983.
The much-anticipated movie was set to be released on April 10. Fans across the country were waiting desperately for the film to hit the theatres as they wanted to re-live India’s inspiring journey in the World Cup. The Kapil Dev-led side had defied all the odds and shed their underdogs’ tag to go all the way in the competition.
In the semifinal, India beat hosts England before going past the mighty West Indies in the final. West Indies were looking set to win their third World Cup in a row after they bowled out India for just 183. However, India came up with a stunning show with the ball to bowl out the Caribbeans for just 140 and register a historic win.
Release on hold
Unsurprisingly, there is excitement all around regarding the film. The film has a big star cast too with Ranveer Singh as the lead and his wife Deepika Padukone opposite him playing the role of Kapil Dev’s wife. The posters of the film were released earlier and the trailer was slated to release on March 11 before being pushed ahead due to the pandemic.
And on Friday morning, Ranveer took to Twitter to confirm that the movie’s release has been pushed forward too. He stated that the health and safety of the country is of utmost priority and thus the release has been put on hold, writing: “83 is not just our film but the entire nation’s film. But the health and safety of the nation always comes first. Stay safe, take care. We shall be back soon!”
