A couple of days ago, Team India was eliminated from the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales. Virat Kohli & Co lost in the semi-final to New Zealand at the Old Trafford in Manchester by 18 runs. That after being dominant in the league stage and finishing on top of the table with 15 points in 9 matches. India won seven out of their nine matches while one game was abandoned going into the knockouts.
In the meantime, reports surrounding a possible rift in the dressing room have surfaced. It has been learned that there are two factions in the team, one favouring Kohli, the Indian skipper and the other with Indian vice-captain Rohit Sharma. However, there’s no division in the team. The report also suggests that there is a fair amount of bias in the selection of players.
As per Dainik Jagran, those who are a part of ‘Virat Company’ or the players, who are doing consistently, like Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah, will get a chance of playing in the team. Quoting a member of the Indian team, the report further states that there is a strong bias towards 27-year-old KL Rahul, who has been backed even after his lacklustre performances at the highest level.
Players want Shastri and Arun to leave
It also mentioned that Ambati Rayudu wasn’t selected in the squad as he wasn’t in the good books of Kohli. Rayudu couldn’t make the team even after two of the players- Shikhar Dhawan and Vijay Shankar- got ruled out of the tournament. Frustrated by the constant snubs, Rayudu, who was being considered for the number four slot since the 2018 Asia Cup, retired from all forms of cricket
To add fuel to fire, the report said that the team is unhappy with head coach Ravi Shastri and bowling coach Bharat Arun. Many of the players now want the duo to leave. Shastri was appointed as the coach after Anil Kumble was forced to resign from his role following a rift with Kohli, the Indian skipper, back in 2017. Kumble in a social media post revealed that his exit was due to poor relations with Kohli.
