Indian opener Rohit Sharma has passed the fitness test as he has been declared fit by the physios at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. The Mumbai Indians‘ attacking batsman injured his hamstring in IPL 2020 during the game against Kings XI Punjab. He reached the NCA after the IPL ended and took part in a fitness test on 11th November.
Rohit played a few games at the business end of the tournament, despite being injured. He later revealed that since the format is only for 20 overs, he took the risk of playing with a hamstring injury. His crucial knock in the IPL 2020 final helped his team to win the title for the record fifth time.
“He (Rohit) has passed the fitness test and the future course of action will be decided by the BCCI and the selection committee,” the source in the know of developments said as quoted by Yahoo Cricket.
Rohit Sharma likely to play the final two Tests in Australia
The BCCI had earlier informed of adding Hitman for the Test series once he regains full fitness after ruling him out for the limited-overs series. With Rohit already being ruled out of the first two Tests, he might get a chance to play the final two Tests. With mandatory quarantine put in place in Australia, it will be tough for him to take part in the first two Tests.
“The BCCI Medical Team has been monitoring Rohit Sharma’s fitness and has briefed All-India Senior Selection Committee on the same. In consultation with Sharma, it has been decided to rest him for the ODIs and T20Is in Australia to regain full fitness and he has been included in India’s Test squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy,” the BCCI said in a release on November 9.
It is a well-known fact that Indian skipper Virat Kohli, on November 26, revealed that he wasn’t aware of why Rohit Sharma didn’t board the flight to Australia along with the whole team. However, the team management later had a call with Rohit to settle things mutually.
India will play the first Test in Adelaide starting from the 17th of December. It will be a day-night affair and will be played with the pink ball.
