England gears up for a 3-match ODI series starting on Friday after whitewashing South Africa in the T20I series. The 1st and 3rd matches of this series will be played at the Newlands in Cape Town while the second ODI will be played at the Paarl’s Boland Park, same as the T20I series. Despite their poor run in T20Is recently, South Africa has fared well in ODIs especially at home. England, fresh of an ODI series defeat after a long time, will be aiming for their first ODI series win on South African soil in 11 years.
Here are all the key stats and numbers ahead of the 3-match ODI series between South Africa and England:
0 – Ben Stokes has not played an ODI match since winning the player of the match award in the 2019 World Cup final against New Zealand. It has been more than 16 months since the Lord’s final and the all-rounder further has been rested from the ODI series against South Africa. No cricketer before Stokes who was adjudged as the player of the final in a Men’s ODI CWC has spent more than ten months before playing his next ODI.
0-6 – England has lost all the six ODI matches they played against South Africa at the Newlands in Cape Town which will be hosting the 1st and 3rd matches of this series. England even lost an ODI to Zimbabwe by a margin of 104 runs at this venue in 2000 but thumped Pakistan by 112 runs in the 2003 CWC, the only ODI win for England in Cape Town.
