Former middle-order batsman and a world-class fielder, Mohammad Kaif has recently talked about his experiences while batting with ‘Master Blaster’ Sachin Tendulkar. Kaif revealed that Tendulkar didn’t like talking to anyone being in midst of his innings as it would hamper his concentration for the moment.
Talking about the same, the fielder remembered his match-winning partnership with the batsman in 2003 World Cup match against Pakistan at Centurion. The 39-year-old also recalled that he was also being asked just to stay at the crease while Tendulkar was giving tough time to Pakistan bowlers with a deadly focus.
Speaking to Star Sports while Watch Along episode of India vs Pakistan 2003 match, Kaif said, “I was told to just stay there. Sachin didn’t believe in talking too much. When Sachin Paaji is batting, it is like a meditation. He is in his own different zone. So he doesn’t like talking too much.”
Sachin Tendulkar’s shots were too well planned: Mohammad Kaif
The middle-order batsman also remembered how Little Master didn’t even entertain partner admiring his shots. Tendulkar would just ask to stay quiet in order to not lose to his monk-like focus
“If someone goes and tells him what a shot he had played, he would ask you to stay quiet and let him bat. He didn’t like it at all if someone goes and tells him how well he was batting and how good the ball was going from his bat or that it was his day,” added Kaif.
Kaif also thrown light on high well Master Blaster planned his strokes in order to make the best of the set field. “He knows where the gap is and he would know in his mind where the fielders are standing and how to push for that extra run. His planning was at a different level,” revealed Kaif.
Talking about Sachin’s ability to play best of the shots, Kaif says how he hammered pace sensation, Shoaib Akhtar for boundaries. It’s too difficult to hit a bowler of Akhtar’s stature with an effortless shot but this was Sachin’s class. He would never ever miss a ball and never got LBW easily. Kaif concluded stating that the flick is Sachin’s greatest strength and nobody aced that like him.
