Indian cricket great Sachin Tendulkar has lent a helping hand to the Makunda Christian Leprosy and General Hospital and will support the Pediatric Intensive Care (PIC) and the Neonatal Intensive Care (NIC) Unit in Assam.
Tendulkar will donate retinal cameras that will help to identify Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP), a condition that can cause blindness among preterm newborn babies.
In fact, Dr. Shajin, who is the Managing Director and Consultant Pediatrician at the Makunda Hospital said that many babies fail to get their ROP screening done, as many people do not have the wherewithal to travel all the way to Guwahati.
“Although it’s indicated for all high-risk preterm babies, most often our babies don’t end up having their ROP screening, as most of our patients are from nearby tea gardens and other less fortunate communities around and do not have the means to travel all the way to Guwahati,” said Dr. Shajin as quoted by Latestly.
We are thankful to the Sachin Tendulkar foundation: Dr. Shajin
Dr. Shajin also thanked the Sachin Tendulkar foundation for getting the device that will help many premature babies from rural communities.
“We are thankful to the Sachin Tendulkar foundation for coming to our rescue in getting this device which will go a long way in helping a lot of premature babies, getting treated in our hospital from the rural communities in and around us,” said Shajin.
Sachin Tendulkar is arguably the greatest batsman to have played the game. In a career that spanned 24 years, Tendulkar represented India in a whopping 200 Tests, 463 ODIs, and 1 T20I. The master batsman is the highest run-scorer in both Tests (15921) and ODIs (18426) and is also the only batsman to have plundered a sensational 100 international centuries.
Tendulkar retired from the game in the year 2013. Sachin Tendulkar is the only Indian cricketer to be conferred with India’s highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna.
