Sanjay Bangar has been in the limelight for his poor stint as the batting coach of the Indian team. He was recently sacked from his role for not being able to solve the middle order conundrum. His decision to send MS Dhoni at number 7 was another questionable move since he had the ability to slow down the pace of the game and bail India out of the trouble in the semi-final.
Bangar was the only member of the previous coaching staff who failed to get another contract. He was highly criticized in his one and a half-hour interview for the batting coach. He had faced questions about the middle order, sending Dhoni down the order, and dropping Pujara against England, and was asked to give proper answers to all these questions. Eventually, he was pipped by Vikram Rathour in this role.
Weeks after the selection process, another hype surrounding him has arisen, where he has been allegedly reported to have threatened Devang Gandhi (a national selector) against axing him. Moreover, Bangar also asked him to rope him somewhere in the National Cricket Academy (NCA), if not for that role as per reports in Hindustan Times. All these incidents haven’t gone well with the BCCI.
An official report needed to interrogate him
However, a BCCI official has revealed that an official report from either the outgoing administrative manager or the head coach is needed to proceed further. If all the boxes are ticked, then only the case will be presented before the Committee of Administrators (CoA). He also told that the rule books strictly need to be followed in such cases, to avoid confusion.
“In such a scenario, one needs to go strictly by the rule book. First and foremost, the man who Bangar is alleged to have insulted, the national selector Gandhi, he needs to officially report the matter. Outgoing administrative manager Subramanian, in his mandatory report, needs to mention the matter clearly. Last but not the least, head coach Shastri, Bangar’s reporting head, also needs to file it in writing that such an incident happened,” said a BCCI official.
Therefore, it would be interesting to see what Subramanium and head coach Ravi Shastri tell the BCCI about the matter. If either of the two reports this incident, Bangar is set to be in the trouble once again.
