Ever since Sanjay Manjrekar called Ravindra Jadeja “bits and pieces” cricketer amidst the 2019 ICC World Cup, he has been facing the music. The former middle-order batsman even faced a backlash from Jadeja himself and was too upset with former England captain Michael Vaughan’s poke at his term and blocked him on Twitter. Manjrekar continued to face the fans’ wrath even for revealing his opinion over the England-New Zealand final at the Lord’s on Sunday.
The 53-year-old, who works as a cricket commentator and analyst now, said on the morning of the final that if one believed in destiny, then the Black Caps would be the champions and even one went by logic, then it was England. Whoever won it though, the cricket World Cup will witness a new champion. While New Zealand beat India in a closely fought game in the semi-final by 18 runs, England thrashed Australia by 8 wickets in the other semi-final.
The fans were in no mood to spare Manjrekar either for his ‘destiny and logic’ tweet. Some said it was their destiny to hear his not-so-pleasing commentary, while others said his cricketing sense had no logic in it.

Manjrekar was proved wrong by Jadeja
Manjrekar apologised to Jadeja during a light-hearted conversation post the India-New Zealand game after the spinner-all-rounder had slammed 77 off 59 balls to almost take India home after they were reduced to 92 for 6 while chasing 240. Virat Kohli’s side had one of its worst days in batting as the top three had crumbled with just five runs on board. It was the 116-run partnership between Jadeja and Mahendra Singh Dhoni (50) that brought India back into the game but they were all-out for 221 to lose by 18 runs.
England though were far clinical in crushing reigning champions Australia by bowling them out for 223 and winning by losing just two wickets. It is after 27 years that England made the finals and the fourth overall though they have never won the trophy. New Zealand, on the other hand, made their second successive final after 2015 when they lost to Australia.
Here are some of the trolling tweets that they came up with against Manjrekar:
