India lost 2nd T20I against West Indies by six wickets played in Trivandrum. The visitors’ performance showed that they cannot be taken lightly in the shorter format of the game. However, they are currently ranked 10th in the ICC T20I and were without their top players like Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, and Chris Gayle but still, they have managed to impress so far in the series. West Indies is a force to reckon with in the T20Is which is why Sanjay Manjrekar wants India to play more against them to improve.
Ahead of the T20I series, it looked like Virat Kohli and Co. would convincingly dominate the Caribbean team. But, ever since the three-match T20I series has begun, things look quite different. In the 1st T20I, West Indies managed to post a mammoth total of 207 runs. However, a magical knock from Virat Kohli’s bat helped Team India to win the match.
India gets a reality check after 2nd T20I against West Indies
In the 2nd T20I, it looked like Caribbean side learnt from the mistakes that they committed during the series opener. They fielded well and the batsmen adapted well to the conditions. They displayed a strong team effort that helped them level the series.
On the other hand, Team India have struggled in the bowling and fielding. So far in the series, they have dropped several regular catches and committed misfields. The T20 World Cup is now just 10 months away from getting kicked off, and the defeat in 2nd T20I would be a reality check for Team India.
They would have been aware of which all departments they need to improve. However, after the 2nd game, Sanjay Manjrekar, the former Indian cricketer has come out with important advice for the Men in Blue. The commentator took to his Twitter handle, and wrote, “India must play WI more. It will only make India a better T20 team.”
On Sunday, in Trivandrum, Lendl Simmons emerged as the Man of the Match for playing a brilliant knock of 67 runs off 45 deliveries. Shivam Dube mustered 54 runs off 30 balls for Team India. It also marked his maiden T20I fifty in international cricket. However, his commendable effort went in vain as he ended up on the losing side.
