June 18, 2017– it was a historic day in Pakistan cricket history. Under the leadership of Sarfaraz Ahmed, the team won the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 beating India by a huge margin in the final. In front of a packed house at the Oval in London, Sarfaraz’s team almost humiliated the Indian team. The story is almost like a movie for the Pakistan team.
In their first match of the tournament, they were thrashed badly by India. Virat Kohli‘s team had won that match by 124 runs (via DLS method). After this match, Pakistan reignited their spirits to beat South Africa, Sri Lanka and hosts England (in the semi-finals) to enter the final.
They were up against their arch-rivals once again and no one had given them much of a chance. Considering the first match of the tournament, India were the firm favourites. However, Pakistan’s name was written all over that day.
Sarfaraz Ahmed’s son recollects details of Champions Trophy final
Three years after that match, former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed uploaded a video on his official Twitter account with his son in which the father-son duo recollect their memories of the final. In the video, Sarfaraz can be heard asking his son about who performed on that day for Pakistan. His son responds to each and every question, recollecting his memories of that special day.
Sarfaraz captioned the video by saying, “Abdullah is glad and fortunate to be the part of one of the greatest days of our life as he recalls it after watching the final of #ChampionsTrophh2017 for the 5th time..”

Coming back to the final, Pakistan batted first on the day. On the back of a brilliant century by Fakhar Zaman and fifties from Azhar Ali and Mohammad Hafeez, Pakistan reached a mammoth score of 338 at the loss of four wickets. In reply to this daunting total, Indian batsmen failed to get a good start.
Mohammad Amir broke the backbone of the Indian batting line-up by dismissing Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan in his first spell. Hardik Pandya got a quick-fire 76 runs but the Indian team was bowled out for just 158 runs.
Sarfaraz Ahmed who led that Pakistan team was dropped from all their national side last year. He has received a call-up for the England tour, but PCB has confirmed him as the second choice wicketkeeper.
