Sarfaraz Khan, a young cricketer burst onto the scene as a 16-year-old and earned plaudits from the likes of Virat Kohli and the cricketing folklore for his precocious and at times outrageous talent with the bat. However, the Young Turk has seen a plethora of ups and downs in his fledgling career thus far.
The former Royal Challengers Bangalore recruit, who had shifted his base to Uttar Pradesh in order to test himself on green tracks, came back to represent his state Mumbai this season, and the results thus far have been pretty good. The swashbuckling right-hander joined the elite list of Mumbai cricketers last week when he racked up a blistering triple-century (377).
“It’s a proud feeling to return and also join Mumbai’s triple-century club, alongside great players like Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Wasim Jaffer, and Rohit Sharma,” Sarfaraz was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.
What did Kohli say to Sarfaraz post his snub from RCB?
Sarfaraz, who was retained by the Kings XI Punjab franchise for the upcoming 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League, has had a topsy-turvy career thus far due to his fitness. The right-hander revealed that his being ‘overweight’ was the reason that Royal Challengers Bangalore dropped him from their set-up and how since then, he has worked on his fitness by changing his routines.
“I was dropped at Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2016 because of my fitness. Virat Kohli told me straightaway while there were no doubts over my skills, my fitness was not letting me get to the next level. He was very honest with me about where I was,” he revealed.
Khan also revealed how his relentless endeavors to get himself fit earned him a new nickname. “I knew that is when I had to get fitter. So I started working out, running, doing a lot of cardio. I gave up sweets and tried to improve my eating habits.
At one point, all my team-mates used to call me ‘panda’ because I used to eat a lot. Now, they’ve started calling me ‘macho’. Actually, very few people know it’s my nickname now,” Sarfaraz added. Meanwhile, Sarfaraz is carrying his form in the ongoing fixture against Himachal Pradesh after racking up yet another century
