The 2nd game of the 3-match T20I Saudari Cup 2019 between Singapore Women and Malaysia Women will be hosted by the Indian Association Ground, Singapore.
The match starts at 7:30 PM local time (5:00 PM IST) (11:30 AM GMT).
Malaysia Women made winning start in the Saudari Cup 2019 with a 23-run win against the Singapore Women. The Saudari Cup is the series between the Women teams from Malaysia and Singapore. The 2018 edition was the first to have official International status. The then hosts Malaysia clinched the 6-match T20I series part of it by a 4-2 margin. This time, the series is on three matches and is hosted by Singapore.
Singapore didn’t do any worse in the first T20I where they failed to chase down 127. Their star player GK Diviya scored an unbeaten 42-ball 45. The remaining players couldn’t score at anything near to 5 runs an over either. Both the teams are facing the issue of lack of consistency from the batters. Both the teams are yet to make a big impact in the T20I format which could pull the interest toward this series.
The first T20I was finished uninterrupted but the second game is under threat of rain. The Indian Association could receive isolated thunderstorms on Thursday. The hourly weather forecast does not suggest any rain in the night. But the rainfall during the day could play an impact on the start of play.
The Indian Association Ground has good conditions to bat in the afternoon. The morning matches usually have a bit of moisture but since this is a 7:30 PM start, there could be dew factor in the second innings instead. However, chasing 130+ might not be that easy given the depths of both teams.
Average first innings score: 107 (Women’s T20I matches)
Record of chasing teams: Won – 1, Lost – 2
Injury and Availability News:
(Will be added when there is an update)
Probable Playing XIs:
Smruthi Radhakrishnan, Samantha Singham, Vigineswari Pasupathy, GK Diviya, Shafina Mahesh (C & WK), Piumi Gurusinghe, Roshni Romesh, Rajeshwari Butler, Shafia Hassan, Wang Ling, Dhavina Sharma.
Bench: Amna Jamal, Lucky Gautam, Ishita Shukla, Sanika Sonpethkar.
Winifred Duraisingam (C), Yusrina Yaakop, Mas Elysa, Mahirah Izzati Ismail, Wan Julia (WK), Christina Baret, Ainna Hamizah Hashim, Wan Nor Zulaika, Nur Nadihirah, Nur Arianna Natsya.
Bench: Nur Alliah Asyqin, Nik Nur Atiela, Jamahidaya Intan.
Mas Elysa will be a good pick along with her skipper Winifred Duraisingam. In the 18 T20Is she played, Elysa scored 189 runs and picked 11 wickets. Duraisingam has got similar numbers but her opening the batting and bowling make her special. Smruthi Radhakrishnan opens the batting and also bowls 4 overs.
Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:
Captain – GK Diviya, Mas Elysa, Winifred Duraisingam
Vice-captain – Ainna Hamizah Hashim, Samantha Singham, Smruthi Radhakrishnan
Across the two squads, only one player has 20+ batting average and less than 10 bowling average in T20I cricket. Singapore’s GK Diviya is the player in both categories. In fact, she is the only player with a T20I fifty across both the nations. She scored an unbeaten 77 during the Saudari Cup in 2018. Her record would make her a must as captain or at least vice-captain.
Suggested Playing XI for Head to Head/Small Leagues:
Keeper – Shafina Mahesh
Batters – Yusrina Yaakop, Mahirah Izzati Ismail, Piumi Gurusinghe
All-Rounders – Mas Elysa (VC), GK Diviya (C), Winifred Duraisingam, Dhavina Sharma
Bowlers – Smruthi Radhakrishnan, Ainna Hamizah Hashim, Nur Arianna Natsya
Suggested Playing XI for Grand Leagues/Mega Leagues:
Keeper – Christina Baret
Batters – Samantha Singham, Rajeshwari Butler, Wan Julia
All-Rounders – Winifred Duraisingam (VC), GK Diviya (C), Mas Elysa, Noor Hayati Zakaria
Bowlers – Roshni Romesh, Shafia Hassan, Nur Arianna Natsya
Neither of the teams has players with a good T20I record with the bat. This means the player we pick from batters category should be able to bowl a couple of overs.
Singapore Women are expected to bounce back and level the series.
