The England team is getting completely rolled over by the Indian spinners in the ongoing Test series between the two sides in India. After managing to win the first Test by a margin of over 200 runs, the visitors lost the second Test by 317 runs and the third Test by 10 wickets.
The stars of the show have been Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel, who made his Test debut in this series. Ashwin has picked up 24 wickets in three matches so far, while Axar Patel has taken 18 scalps from just two matches so far. Axar came into the side, only because of an injury that kept ace all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja out of this match.
Speaking on Jadeja’s return to the side, former England off-spinner Graeme Swann made a cheeky comment by saying that he could consider turning up for England. Swann also suggested Jadeja coming back won’t be bad for England as the visitors have seen enough of Axar already.
I think Axar Patel has done enough, for now, we have seen enough of him: Graeme Swann
“I am a huge fan of Jadeja. Seeing how well Axar Patel has done, I think he should go on leave for a week and Jadeja can either come and play for England or can play for India because I think Axar Patel has done enough, for now, we have seen enough of him, haven’t we,” Swann told former India captain Sunil Gavaskar during a discussion on Star Sports.
During the Australian tour, Ravindra Jadeja broke his thumb trying to fend off a bouncer from Mitchell Starc. He was immediately ruled out of the next match and later found himself ruled out of the England Test series. Axar was thought of as the like for like replacement of Jadeja and he has delivered so far in the bowling department.
Jadeja is expected to return to the Indian team in the limited-overs leg during the India and England series. After the Test series, the two teams will play five T20I matches in Ahmedabad, followed by three ODIs in Pune. The fourth and final Test is scheduled to begin on March 4, 2021.
