As the coronavirus threat has paused cricket all across the globe, there is nothing much that the players are doing right now. This is a time when either the cricketers are staying back at home and spending time with their families or just spending their time on social media. In fact, cricketers are using this time to interact with fellow cricketers and fans via social media.
Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has been doing some great work in his home country. The Shahid Afridi Foundation has been taking up donations from several places and then using the money to provide essentials to poor people during the time of crisis.
Shahid Afridi lauds Brian Lara for his footwork
In a recent interview, the all-rounder was asked who was the toughest bowler he had ever bowled to. During the interaction, he picked up West Indian batsman Brian Lara as the toughest batsman he had ever faced. Afridi said that every time he bowled to the West Indian batsman he felt like he might get hit for a boundary. He revealed that he never bowled with any confidence to him.
“That would have to be Brian Lara,” said Afridi as quoted by Wisden. “I got him out a few times but whenever I was bowling to him I always had the feeling in the back of my mind that he is going to hit me for four the next ball. He had an effect on me. I never bowled with any confidence to him.”
Talking about Lara, Afridi said that he was a world-class batsman who dominated even someone like Muttiah Muralitharan. The Pakistani leggie pointed out that Lara’s foot against the spinners was brilliant.
“He was a world-class batsman who dominated the best spinners he came up against, even the likes of Muttiah Muralitharan in Sri Lanka. His footwork against spinners was brilliant and the way he batted against such bowlers was a wonderful sight. He was sheer class,” he concluded.
Shahid Afridi played 398 ODIs picking up 395 wickets. As an all-rounder, he had won many matches for Pakistan. Apart from those wickets, Afridi also had more than 8,000 runs in the format with a strike rate of 117.
