Shakib Al Hasan, the Bangladesh all-rounder, has named Ben Stokes, Kane Williamson, and Ravindra Jadeja as his three favourite cricketers among the current set of players. Shakib is currently gearing up for the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The veteran is set to play for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) after being bought in the auction at a price of INR 3.20 crores.
Shakib would be coming face-to-face with all three of Williamson, Stokes, and Jadeja in the IPL. Stokes and Williamson play for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) respectively, even as Jadeja plies his trade for three-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
The 2021 IPL is scheduled to get underway with the match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI). All three have been critical members of their teams in the cash-rich T20 championship. Shakib has put forth the names of the cricketers in a Facebook Live with Daraz.
No plans of retirement as of now: Shakib Al Hasan
Shakib also expressed his desire to play in the 2027 World Cup if the Tigers don’t go on to win the 2023 edition of the mega event. The Magura-born, who turned 34 on March 24, also said that he doesn’t have any plans of retirement for the time being.
“In the year 2023. It’s my last World Cup. If Bangladesh don’t win, I will continue until 2027,” Shakib was quoted as saying.
“I have no plans of retirement as of now. The prospects are open for the time being. When I will feel I’m not enjoying the sport anymore, then I will retire. And until the time I feel I am enjoying, I will continue,” Shakib added.
Shakib recently was a part of a controversy with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) after he chose to play in the IPL over taking part in the Test series against Sri Lanka. The left-hander also said that BCB operation chairman, Akram Khan, mislead the media surrounding the matter.
Shakib clarified that he chose the IPL in order to gain enough experience before the T20 World Cup in India later this year. He also took paternity leave from the tour of New Zealand as he was due to become a father for the third time.
