The pitch at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai has been one of the most talked-about matters in world cricket for the past few days. In the first Test between India and England, the pitch was criticised for being too flat on day one and two, while in the second Test, it faced criticism for turning too much from a few former cricketers. Former England captain Michael Vaughan was extremely critical of the Chennai pitch and called it ‘a shocker.’ The main argument given by former England skipper was that the pitch wasn’t made to last for five days.
As of lunch on day three, team India is well and truly ahead in the game with a lead in excess of 350 runs. Midway through the second day’s play, the 46-years-old took to the social media platform, Twitter and talked about the pitch. In the tweet, he said that he is okay with entertaining cricket but the pitch in Chennai was not made to last for five days of Test cricket. He also pointed out that the Indian team has done well on this wicket so far.
Shane Warne and Twitterati hit back at Michael Vaughan
“It’s entertaining cricket as things are happening all the time but let’s be honest this Pitch is a shocker .. Not making any excuses as India have been better but this isn’t a Test Match 5 day prepared Pitch …” Vaughan tweeted.
The first person to take note of Vaughan’s tweet and reply back was former Australian spinner, Shane Warne. He suggested that England didn’t bowl well enough to restrict India to a small total, which has now come back to bite them.
“The toss was more important to win in the 1st test than this one, as it did nothing the 1st 2 days. Then exploded. This one has been a turner from ball one. Eng should’ve bowled India out for 220. No different between spinning or seaming & Rohit showed how to play on this surface,” Warne said.

After this, there was a barrage of tweets from cricket fans. Most Indian fans felt it was not right of former great to complain about a turning track in Indian conditions as England also makes green top pitches when any visiting team comes to play in their conditions.

You should think about the same when you make green tops in England.. can’t have different rules for different countries

The game might not last five days but the challenge of Test cricket is to confront the conditions you are faced with. This is international level.

If ball can seam/swing from ball 1, it can spin as well. You can't define prepared or under prepared at your whims. This is your own lords, 2014. pic.twitter.com/Sa6xIBaZFA

As with all such things, the point is not really about the quality of the pitch. The point is that when a visiting team is 100/6 in ENG, its apparently because of technical deficiencies. When ENG are 100/6 in IND, its apparently because the pitch is substandard.
