Sheldon Jackson has been one of the more consistent players at the domestic circuit, though he hasn’t played a whole lot of games at the age of 32. In 66 first-class matches, Jackson has 4.825 runs at an excellent average of 49.23. He boasts of 16 centuries and 24 half-centuries in red-ball cricket. In List A, cricket, the experienced campaigner has 1,686 runs at an average of 39.20.
In those games, he racked up six centuries and nine half-centuries. In T20 cricket though, he has been a bit of a disappointment, having scored only 793 runs in 47 matches at an average of 18.88. Jackson has smacked 160 sixes in his domestic career, something which shows that he can muscle the leather a fair distance. He has also had the privilege of featuring in the cash-rich IPL.
Sheldon Jackson – A decent enough batsman
He has been a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the prestigious T20 tournament. The Bhavnagar-born last played competitive cricket for Saurashtra in the erstwhile edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 trophy. In that event, the right-handed batter could only manage 67 runs in five innings with a top score of 36 against Goa in Indore.
He was impressive in the previous Ranji Trophy edition, scoring 854 runs. His performances helped Saurashtra qualify for the finals. Of late, luck hasn’t favoured him. Recently, he didn’t get picked among the 44 players selected for three different Duleep Trophy squads. Parking aside the disappointment of the snub, Jackson is working his heart out, which can be seen in two clips.
Jackson uploaded the videos where he was seen practising in the nets when the rain was pouring down. The efforts showed how desperate he is to get into the selectors’ scheme of things. He captioned the first video and wrote, “Selection or Rejection is not in my hands, all I can do is keep on working harder and proving myself more and more,”
