Over the time being, there has been discussions over who’s the best batter in the cricketing world. The Fab Four, consisting of the likes of Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, Kane Williamson and Babar Azam, is being deemed to rule the batting charts. And it has been difficult to single one out from the four as all of them have shown a tremendous level of consistency across all the formats.
Smith, the Australian batter, hasn’t played Test cricket since March 2018. Still, he is ranked fourth in ICC’s ranking for a batsman in the format, such has been his domination. Smith is now set to make a return to Test cricket in the upcoming Ashes, starting August 1 with the opening game at the Edgbaston in Birmingham. Williamson has also been in tremendous form with the bat.
The Fab Four doing brilliantly
He was New Zealand’s leading run-scorer in the 2019 World Cup with a couple of centuries under his belt. Babar is going great guns as well and has arguably been Pakistan’s most reliable batter and he did brilliantly in the World Cup as well, though the Men in Green couldn’t progress beyond the league stages. Last, but not the least, Kohli’s stupendous numbers speak for themselves.
Kohli has been scoring runs pretty consistently in all the three formats owing to which India has been able to dominate world cricket for quite some time now. He recently played in the World Cup and though he couldn’t score a ton, he was able to chip in with useful half-centuries. Kohli is now set to lead the national team in the T20I, ODI and Test series in the West Indies, starting August 3.
In the meantime, a supporter asked former Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Akhtar to make a choice from the Fab Four, asking him to name the best batsman doing the rounds in world cricket. Shoaib conducted a Question and Answer round on Twitter. The fan wrote, “#AskShoaibAkhtar Kohli / Joe Root / Steve Smith / Kane Williamson / Babar Azam ….who’s best?!”

Shoaib didn’t have any hesitation in making his choice, He zeroed in on Kohli, who already is being considered to break a number of more records going into the future. “Kohli,” the Rawalpindi Express wrote.
