Cricketer Sikandar Raza didn’t seem to be impressed about the ICC suspending Zimbabwe. He took it to social media to vent out his frustration and said that many lives were affected due to this decision. The message shared by Raza was quite an emotional one and reflected the thoughts of many others in the country.
Earlier, the apex cricket council took a decision to suspend Zimbabwe as a full member during the annual meeting in London on Thursday. The ICC stated government intervention as the reason behind this suspension. Earlier this year in June, the Zimbabwe government suspended the entire cricket board and appointed an interim committee. As per rules, the ICC does not allow political interference in its members.
As per ICC, there was a breach of Article 2.4 (c) and (d) of the ICC Constitution. During the meeting, the ICC decided that Zimbabwe had ‘failed to fulfil their obligation to provide a process for free and democratic elections and to ensure that there is no government interference in its administration for cricket’.
One decision has made so many people unemployed
In his tweet, Sikandar Raza wrote that this decision has turned the Zimbabwe team into strangers. He added that this one decision made so many people unemployed. Raza even mentioned that this has affected so many families and ended so many careers. He got a bit emotional as well and wrote that this isn’t the way he wanted to say goodbye to international cricket.
“How one decision has made a team, strangers, how one decision has made so many people unemployed. How one decision affects so many families, how one decision has ended so many careers. Certainly not how I wanted to say goodbye to international cricket. @ICC,” he wrote in his tweet.

After this decision, Zimbabwe’s funding received from the ICC will be frozen as of now. However, the ICC has directed Zimbabwe to reinstate the elected board within a period of three months. The future of the nation’s cricket will be decided in the next board meeting in October. Until then, any representative team from Zimbabwe will not be allowed to participate in any ICC events.
