Singapore created history on Sunday when they sneaked in a 4-run win against Zimbabwe to register their first win in the ongoing T20I Tri-series at home. After a big defeat against Nepal, Singapore came up with a strong batting performance. They posted 181/9 in the restricted 18 overs with contributions from top three.
Zimbabwe were well ahead of the required rate as Regis Chakabva scored a 19-ball 48 while skipper Sean Williams scored 66 from only 35 balls with 10 boundaries. Williams got out when Zimbabwe needed 19 from 15 balls and the remaining batsmen could only add 14 more runs.
All the statistical highlights from Singapore’s memorable win against Zimbabwe on Sunday:
A historic win for Singapore:
2 – Singapore registered their first win against a full member nation in International cricket. They are only the 2nd associate nation to win their maiden match against a full member nation. Zimbabwe defeated Australia in the 1983 World Cup before they turned a full-member country.
Williams’ unsuccessful effort:
1 – Sean Williams became the first Zimbabwe captain to score a fifty and take a wicket in the same T20I. No Zimbabwe skipper before Williams even scored 15 in a T20I where they took a wicket.
Overall, this is the 21st instance of a skipper scoring 50+ runs and taking a wicket in the same T20I and the 8th occasion to result in a defeat.
5 – Sean Williams is only the 5th captain to win a player of the match award in a T20I defeat. Paul Collingwood (vs West Indies, 2007 for 79), Ashish Bagai (vs Ireland, 2013 for 63*), Shane Watson (in his only T20I vs India, 2016 for 124*) and Josh Butler (vs Jersey, 2019 for 65*) are the other four captains with a PoTM award in a T20I loss.
Nearly Zimbabwe’s highest:
9.83 – Zimbabwe’s run-rate of 9.83 in this game is the 3rd highest by them in a T20I where they played more than 100 balls. They had an RR of 10.32 against Ireland this year during the successful chase of 172. Zimbabwe recorded a run-rate of 10 when they posted 200/2 in 20 overs against New Zealand in the 2012 Hamilton T20I.
Mutumbami records Zimbabwe’s best:
4 – Number of catches Richmond Mutumbami took in this game; the first instance of a Zimbabwe player claiming four catches in a T20I match. This is also the 2nd instance of a Zimbabwe keeper affecting four dismissals in a T20I. Mutumbami recorded the first such instance as well. He took a catch and affected three stumpings in the 2016 WT20 match against Scotland.
Williams @ 5000:
5027 – Runs Sean Williams has scored in International cricket for Zimbabwe. He became the 8th player to complete 5000 International runs for Zimbabwe.
