The three-match T20I series between Sri Lanka and India is tantalizingly poised at 1-1. With one game left, both the teams will look to end the series on a winning note. Although India fielded a new-look squad for the second T20I on Wednesday, there were a lot of positives for the team. Opening batter Ruturaj Gaikwad started things off positively for India in the powerplay and gave the team a good start.
Another positive for India was the performance of fast bowler Chetan Sakariya who held his composure in the final over when eight runs were needed for the Lankan Lions to get. Although the left-arm pacer failed to defend those runs, it was a good learning curve for Sakariya. Apart from these two players, even Padikkal looked decent for his 29 runs.
With one match still to be played, the youngsters will look to put up a match-winning performance and press their case for inclusion in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021 set to be held in the UAE in October. On the other hand, the Lankan Lions seemed to tick all the boxes as they finally managed to click as a unit.
Dhananjaya de Silva was the hero for the home team as his composed unbeaten innings of 40 helped them get over the line with two balls remaining. Apart from him, Wanidu Hasaranga too was good with the ball as he gave away just 30 runs and picked up one wicket.
Will rain play spoilsport in the decider?
Although rain has not played much of a spoilsport during the five white-ball games, it did briefly threaten to halt the proceedings during the third ODI. Luckily the overs lost were few and the game did produce a result with Sri Lanka winning the dead rubber. The forecast for the third and final T20I at R Premadasa stadium in Colombo is good. The temperature predicted is 30 Degrees Celsius as per Accuweather.
Apart from that, the climate would be partially cloudy. With no rains expected, the third T20I between Sri Lanka and India promises to be a mouth-watering contest.
