The second day of the 2019 T20 Blast was spoiled by the rain as only two of the seven matches ended with a result. The game between Essex and Surrey in Chelmsford was one of those two. The match was reduced to 15 overs-a-side due to the rain and what followed was a run-fest. Cameron Delport smashed 14 sixes and seven fours on his way through to a 49-ball 129 despite losing early wickets at the other end.
Daniel Lawrence scored an unbeaten 22-ball 57 as Essex piled up a mammoth total of 225/4 in the restricted 15 overs. In the chase, Surrey lost four wickets in space of ten deliveries as they collapsed to 32/4 from 31/0 in 1.2 overs. The visitors recovered to finish with 174/7 but fell 53 runs short of the target. A total of 400 runs were scored in this fixture for the loss of 11 wickets; all in only 30 overs with 31 sixes and 24 fours.

15.07 – Essex’s run rate of 15.07 in this game is the highest in a Twenty20 innings that lasted at least 15 overs. The Royal Challengers Bangalore posted 211/3 from 15 overs at a rate of 14.06 in the 2016 IPL game against Kings XI Punjab.
0/63 – Tom Curran’s three overs cost 63 runs; the most runs conceded by any bowler in a 3-over spell in Twenty20 cricket. Namibia’s Bredell Wessels and Kent’s Ben Harmison conceded 62 runs apiece from the three overs they bowled during a T20 game in 2014 against North West and Essex respectively.
14 – Cameron Delport’s 14 sixes are the 3rd most by any player in an English Domestic T20 game. Graham Napier hit 16 sixes during his unbeaten 152 also for Essex in the 2008 edition game against Sussex. Chris Gayle hit 15 maximums during his 151* for Somerset in 2015 against Kent.
17 – Daniel Lawrence brought up his fifty in 17 balls in this game; the fastest T20 half-century for Essex. The previous fastest was off 19 balls recorded by Tim Southee against Hampshire in 2011 and Varun Chopra in 2017 against Kent. Delport’s fifty in this game also came off 19 deliveries.
20 – Essex became the first team from England to hit as many as 20 sixes in an innings in Twenty20 cricket. The previous most were 17 sixes also by Essex in Chelmsford during the 2008 T20 tournament against Sussex and also by Somerset against Kent in 2015. The previous most sixes in a T20 innings by any team in England were 18 by Australia in the 2013 Southampton T20I against the hosts.
31 – A total of 31 sixes were hit during this game; 20 by Essex and 11 by Surrey. These are the most number of sixes hit in a Twenty20 game in England. The match between Essex and Glamorgan in 2017 also hosted by Chelmsford witnessed a total of 29 sixes being hit.
38 – Delport’s 38-ball ton is the fastest Twenty20 century by any player for Essex. Graham Napier’s 44-ball century against Sussex in 2008 was the previous fastest for the club. Delport’s 129 is also the 2nd highest individual T20 score for Essex behind Napier’s 152* during that game against Sussex.
5 – This was Cameron Delport’s 5th century in Twenty20 cricket; the most by any South African cricketer. Quinton de Kock, AB de Villiers and Colin Ingram have four tons apiece in Twenty20s.
