The Scotland openers George Munsey and Kyle Coetzer helped their team to open their winning count in the T20I Tri-Series with a big win. Munsey smashed an unbeaten 127 from only 56 balls with help of 14 maximums and five fours. Skipper Coetzer scored 89 from 50 balls as the duo added 200 in 15.1 overs for the first wicket as the Scottish team finished with 252/3.
Scotland, at 184/0 in 13 overs, looked likely to surpass the highest T20I total but could score only 68 runs from the last seven overs. The Netherlands kept losing wickets in regular intervals and stood without a chance of a win by half-way stage. Skipper Pieter Seelaar finished on an unbeaten 96 from only 49 balls to ensure reducing the losing margin to 58 runs only.
All the statistical highlights from Scotland’s big win in the T20I Tri-series match:
2/3 – George Munsey (127*) and Kyle Coetzer (89) have recorded two of the top three T20I scores of Scotland. Richie Berrington’s 100 in the 2012 Hague T20I against Bangladesh stands at No.2 on this list.
14 – Munsey’s 14 sixes are the joint 2nd most number of sixes hit by any player in an innings in T20I cricket. Hazratullah Zazai hit 16 during his unbeaten 162 against Ireland this year while Aaron Finch also smashed 14 maximums when he scored 156 against England in 2013.
20 – Scotland hit as many as 20 sixes during their innings; this is the 5th time any team has hit 20+ sixes in a T20I inning. Afghanistan’s 22 against Ireland in the Greater Noida T20I this year are the most by any team in a T20I inning. Overall, this match recorded 29 sixes which are the 6th most in any T20I game.
30+ – Six Netherlands bowlers conceded 30+ runs in this game. This is only the 2nd time as many as six bowlers of a team conceded 30+ runs in a T20I. Six Indian bowlers gave away at least 30 runs during the 2016 Lauderhill T20I against West Indies.
41 – Munsey completed his hundred in 41 balls; only three players have scored a T20I ton in fewer balls. David Miller against Bangladesh and Rohit Sharma against Sri Lanka in 2017 completed their respective tons in 35 balls while Czech Republic’s Sudesh Wickramasekara against Turkey earlier this year also got a 35-ball hundred.
96* – Pieter Seelaar’s unbeaten 96 is the highest individual score for the Netherlands in Twenty20 cricket. Michael Swart’s 89 against Kenya was the previous fastest which came in 2013 also during a T20I.
127* – George Munsey’s unbeaten 127 is now the 5th highest individual score in the T20I format. This is also the highest T20I score by an associate nation player surpassing Babar Hayat’s 122 in the 2016 Asia Cup T20 Qualifier match against Oman.
185 – A total of 185 runs were scored by the captains of both teams – 96* by Pieter Seelaar and 89 by Kyle Coetzer. These are the most number of runs aggregated by captains in a T20I. The previous most was 184 runs during the Zimbabwe-Australia T20I in 2018 where Aaron Finch alone scored 172 runs.
200 – The partnership of 200 between George Munsey and Kyle Coetzer is only the 3rd double-century stand in Men’s T20Is. Hazratullah Zazai-Usman Ghani (236 vs Ireland, 2019) and Aaron Finch-D’Arcy Short (223 vs Zimbabwe, 2018) shared double hundreds stands also for the first wicket.
252/3 – Scotland’s total of 252/3 is one of the six totals of 250 and more runs in Men’s T20I cricket. It is also the 2nd highest T20I total by an associate team in Men’s cricket. Czech Republic finished on 278/4 in a T20I against Turkey three weeks ago. Only once before, Scotland has posted 200+ in a T20I – 221/3 also against Netherlands in the 2018 Amstelveen T20I.
194/7 – The 194/7 by the Netherlands in this game is their 2nd highest total in T20I cricket. Their highest is 199/6 against Zimbabwe earlier in June this year during the Rotterdam T20I.
