Virat Kohli made his Test debut in 2011 against West Indies. During that period Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag were the part of Team India, but who knew that the Delhiite will one day become the run machine of his nation and will break some elite records in his future.
Kohli’s career has gone through its highs and lows but the way he has adopted the art to scoring runs looks like a Picasso on the field with the bat being his brush that is used to score runs for his side. When he entered the international circuit he was a bit of a bulky guy but his tough work ethic has helped him to source out some extraordinary outcome with his willow.
The last four or five years will go on the name of the Indian skipper who has seriously dominated the cricketing world that has earned him a lot of praise. He has broken several records but has also created some of his own. In his 81 Test appearances, he has notched more than 7000 international runs and still counting that includes 26 magnificent tons, 22 fifties and 7 double tons which shows the potential of stylish Indian batsman.
Kohli in the elite list of Bradman, Sangakkara
Currently, he is playing a Test against South Africa where he played a marathon inning and scored his 7th double century. Today the top-order batsman of India has again opened the record books to get his name registered in it. He has joined the elite list comprising of legendary batsman Sir Don Bradman, Brian Lara, and Kumar Sangakkara.
After registering the 7th double ton of his career, Kohli has moved onto the 4th position in the list of scoring most double centuries by an individual in Test cricket. At the moment, this list is topped by Don Bradman with 12 doubles, followed by Kumar Sangakkara (11), and Brian Lara (9) who are standing ahead of the Indian batter.
The Indian captain took 138 innings to get into the list of this elite record. The significant shift in the performance of Kohli can be seen from the fact that he didn’t get a single double in his first 41 Tests but got all his seven doubles in his next 40 appearances in the longest format of this game.
