Steve Smith, the former Australian skipper, has always hogged the spotlight whether it is due to his batting style or his performances. On the opening day of the third Test against New Zealand, he received applause from the spectators present in the stadium in a hilarious fashion. Even, the hosts’ batsmen and Kiwi bowler Wagner were also left smiling on the ground over the same.
Australia is currently involved in the final game of the three-match Test series against New Zealand at Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney. Earlier, the hosts won the toss and elected to bat. However, the decision didn’t go down well with the team as they lost their opener, Joe Burns, at a score of 39.
Later on, David Warner (45) got dismissed early in the second session. He was efficiently moving towards his first fifty for the year 2020 but he failed to anticipate the short-pitched delivery bowled by Colin de Grandhomme and was caught by Ross Taylor at leg-gully.
Steve Smith consumes 39 balls for his first run
After the dismissal of Warner, the right-handed batsman Steve Smith took the crease and he started off slowly. Nobody knew what was going in his mind as he took 39 balls to get off the mark. Neil Wagner welcomed Smith with bouncers but it was pretty visible that Smith didn’t want to give his wicket to the Kiwi pacer, who has already taken his wicket on four occasions in the ongoing Test series.
Moreover, the single that Smith took was also a cheeky as his partner Marnus Labuschagne had to pull off a long dive to complete the run. As soon as the run was completed, Smith received a huge round of applause from the spectators like he had scored a century. Smith also received a hilarious pat on his back from Wagner over the same. The right-handed batsman became the second Aussie player to take the longest time to get off the mark after David Boon in 1991 against West Indies.
Coming to the game, after the early dismissal of the openers, Australia looks in commanding position.
