After Australia annihilated Virat Kohli and Co. in the first ODI of the series at Wankhede, the Men in Blue retaliated back at Rajkot by clinching the victory by 36 runs. With the three-match series on the line, India and Australia are currently battling out in the middle at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
After failing to chase down a competitive total of 341 runs at Rajkot, Australian skipper Aaron Finch won the toss at Bengaluru and elected to field first. However, Mohammed Shami dented the visitors from getting off to a flying start by departing Warner in the fourth over. Aaron Finch, who smashed a brilliant ton in the first ODI, was touted to steady Australia’s ship after Warner’s early departure.
But a miscommunication between Finch and Smith saw the former getting run out in a hilarious manner. After Steve Smith dabbed the ball towards backward point, he took a couple of steps before declining the call and running back to his crease. However, it was too late for Finch, who had already raced towards Smith’s end. One of the best fielders of the Indian unit- Ravindra Jadeja, who was fielding at the point, missed a direct throw towards Smith’s end.
But it was Shreyas Iyer to calmly collect the ball at short midwicket and pass it on to Mohammed Shami, who dismantled the bails at the non-striker’s end. Finch was left furious after the miscommunication as he left the pitch without uttering a word to Smith.
India stepped into the third ODI with an unchanged XI
After the departure of Finch and Warner, the in-form duo of Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne are battling it out in the middle against the Indian bowling force. Meanwhile, Australia have included pacer Josh Hazlewood in place of Kane Richardson, who had an expensive outing in the previous ODI at Rajkot.
India, on the other hand, stepped into the field with an unchanged playing XI. Amid much uncertainty over youngster Rishabh Pant’s fitness, KL Rahul was assigned the wicketkeeper’s role yet again at Bengaluru. All eyes will be on India’s top-order comprising Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli to deliver a stellar performance against a formidable Aussie bowling attack.
