The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) side fell short in every department of the game in their encounter against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) outfit on 30th April 2021 and lost the match by 34 runs. While the RCB bowlers leaked a lot of runs with the likes of KL Rahul and Chris Gayle pounding the RCB bowling attack to all corners of the ground, the RCB willow wielders had no answers to the questions posed by Harpreet Brar and Ravi Bishnoi.
Next up, the RCB side will be up against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) outfit. When these two sides met each other on 18th April 2021, the Bangalore side easily won the contest by 38 runs. With the Eoin Morgan led Kolkata side and the Virat Kohli led Bangalore side about to clash in a scintillating battle on 3rd May 2021, let us take a look at the predicted playing XI of the RCB side.
Openers: Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal
The two willow wielders who will open the batting at the top of the order for the RCB side in their clash against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal. Padikkal could not make much of an impact in RCB’s previous match and was dismissed for just 7.
Even though Kohli scored 35, he was not very fluent with the willow and scored his runs at a strike rate of just 102.94 against the Punjab side. Kohli and Padikkal should lay a solid foundation at the top of the order for Bangalore so that the likes of AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell can cash in from there.
Middle Order: Glenn Maxwell, AB de Villiers
The RCB middle order will comprise the deadly duo of AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell. And in Bangalore’s previous encounter against the Punjab Kings, both Maxwell and de Villiers were foxed by Harpreet Brar.
While Maxwell was castled by an absolute peach from Brar and departed for a duck, de Villiers was removed by Brar for just 3. However, both de Villiers and Maxwell are capable of destruction once they get their eye in, and the Kolkata side should definitely have their plans in place to control this duo.
All Rounders: Shahbaz Ahmed, Daniel Sams, Kyle Jamieson, Washington Sundar
The RCB side is likely to comprise of 4 all-rounders in their clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Shahbaz Ahmed produced a decent performance with the ball and gave away 11 runs in the 2 overs that he bowled against Punjab. Daniel Sams too did a good job with the ball in hand.
The left-arm seamer bowled 4 overs and conceded only 24 runs. He also scalped the wicket of the dangerous Chris Gayle. Kyle Jamieson was on the expensive side in Bangalore’s last match against Punjab, but he managed to scalp a couple of wickets. And finally, Washington Sundar did not feature in the match against the Punjab Kings but is slated to make a comeback for the match against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Bowlers: Harshal Patel, Mohammed Siraj, and Yuzvendra Chahal
Harshal Patel produced a poor performance with the ball in the match against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) side. The right-arm pacer was smashed for 53 runs in the 4 overs that he bowled, and failed to pick up even a single wicket. However, Patel is the highest wicket-taker in the tournament and will look to produce a better performance in the match against the Eoin Morgan-led side.
Mohammed Siraj too did not produce a great performance. In the 3 overs that he rolled his arm over, Siraj gave away 24 runs and did not scalp a wicket. And finally, Yuzvendra Chahal was also on the expensive side as well, in RCB’s previous clash against the Punjab Kings. The leg spinner leaked 34 runs in 4 overs and picked up the wicket of Shah Rukh Khan.
