Former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar has reacted hilariously to Jasprit Bumrah walking out to bat at number three in the ongoing Test against Australia at the Adelaide Oval. The India pace spearhead walked out to bat as the night watchman after Prithvi Shaw endured yet another failure towards the end of day two of the Test.
Having failed to open his account in the first innings, Shaw fell for just 4 in the second innings. And with few balls remaining in the day, India sprung a surprise by sending Bumrah to see out the remainder of the day along with Mayank Agarwal. The pacer did a decent job while up against the pink ball under the lights as he faced 11 deliveries.
Bumrah is not regarded very highly as a batsman even by the standards of tailenders but he has been in a rich vein of form of late. During the second tour game, he had scored a fine fifty and was also promoted ahead of Mohammed Shami in the first innings of the ongoing Test. But when he was sent as a nightwatchman, Sunil Gavaskar could not help but give a hilarious reaction.
The legendary batsman, who is a part of the commentary panel for the ongoing series, said that Bumrah would tell his grandchildren about his promotion. Gavaskar then hilariously predicted that Bumrah won’t be telling the children about the reason behind his promotion as he said:
“30-40 years down the road, (Bumrah is) going to tell his grandchildren, ‘I batted number three for India’… He won’t tell the circumstances.”

India slightly ahead in the proceedings
Team India are slightly ahead in the game after the end of day two. The visitors ended the day on 9 for 1 with their overall lead extended to 62 runs. Earlier in the day, the Indian bowlers came up with a stunning display to bowl out the hosts for a modest 191. At one stage, Australia were reeling at 79 for 5 and then 111 for 7 but managed to reach 191 thanks to a fighting fifty from their skipper Tim Paine.
Paine remained unbeaten on 73. Earlier in the day, India were all out for 244. They could add just 11 runs to their overnight score after starting the day on 233 for 6.
