Amidst the pomp and show of the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL), the Women’s T20 Challenge is set to hit the centre-stage. The opening game will be played between the 2019 champions Supernovas and runners-up Velocity on Wednesday, November 4 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
Back on October 22, 30 Indian women’s cricketers reached the UAE and have already served their six-day quarantine period. The BCCI would be satisfied that despite the chaos surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, they are able to host two tournaments simultaneously.
As far as the game is concerned, it’s a re-match of the 2019 final where the Supernovas defeated Mithali Raj’s Velocity by four wickets. Even in the league stage, the Supernovas got the better of their rivals, and this time around, the Velocity will be looking to make amends.
Pitch and Conditions
The pitch in Sharjah, during the IPL, started being a batsman’s paradise. However, in the last few games, the track has slowed down to a significant extent. Also, the dew factor has played a major role and the teams, batting second, have started to taste a fair amount of success.
The playing conditions in Sharjah won’t be overly warm with the temperature around 28 degrees Celsius. The humidity will be in the 60s.

Danielle Wyatt– Velocity
Danielle Wyatt has a T20I average of 29.53 in India compared to his overall average of 19.63 in the shortest format. Hence, it can be said that she thrives in sub-continent conditions. In fact, her top score of 124 was in India itself back in March 2018.
In the previous Women’s T20 Challenge, she had scores of 46 and 43 before failing in the final. Velocity will be hoping for the 29-year-old to fire on all cylinders.
