IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings suffered a major setback as their premier batsman Suresh Raina pulled himself out of the cash-rich tournament for the 2020 season due to personal reasons. However, the franchise is yet to reveal the actual details behind the star cricketer’s unavailability for the whole season.
On Saturday (August 29), the Chennai-based franchise came up with a statement in which the team CEO revealed that the CSK batter returned to India for his personal reasons and also added that the franchise is offering complete support to the dashing batsman at this time.
“Suresh Raina has returned to India for personal reasons and will be unavailable for the remainder of the IPL season. Chennai Super Kings offers complete support to Suresh and his family during this time,” CSK statement read on Twitter.

Days after leaving international cricket, Suresh Raina came up with a great gesture of volunteering to promote cricket in Jammu and Kashmir by providing cricketing opportunities to underprivileged kids of the state. In a letter addressed to state DGP Dilbagh Singh, the hard-hitter stated that he wants to give back to the game by doing his bit. It’s a well-known fact that the 33-year-old himself is a Kashmiri Pandit.
“I have etched a mark on the field of international cricket for 15 years, and thus I would like to make use of the knowledge and skills I learned over the years and pass it onto the next generation. My intention is to find out the talented youngsters from various parts of the state,” he wrote.
The cash-rich IPL T20 league is set to start from September 19 in UAE and the schedule is yet to come out due to a few issues regarding Abu Dhabi travel restrictions. Chennai Super Kings are expected to play their season opener against defending champions Mumbai Indians on the opening day of the season.
On Friday (August 28), the team landed in another trouble when at least 10 members of the CSK contingent tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. The actual details on this are yet to be known from the franchise.
