Mumbai Indians lifted their 5th IPL trophy this season as the mega event concluded on November 10. One player who has been the talk of the town is none other than Suryakumar Yadav for obvious reasons. The brilliant middle-order batsman amassed 480 runs in 16 games he played for MI with an average of 40.00 and a strike rate of 145.01. He turned out to be a match-winner for Mumbai on various occasions.
Ever since the squads for Australia are announced, his absence in the team is under all the criticism from the fans and cricket experts. In the same light, veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh took to Twitter to ask about his omission from the team. He once opened up about the ace Mumbai batter and labelled him as Indian AB de Villiers while also lavishing praise on him
“There is no doubt that Suryakumar Yadav has transformed himself from being the game-changer to a primary match-winner for the Mumbai Indians. He had taken up a lot of responsibility of their batting. And it is not that he plays at the strike rate of 100. If you see his strike rate, he starts hitting from the first ball itself,” said Harbhajan Singh while speaking to Star Sports.
Suryakumar Yadav is an unbelievable player, says Harbhajan Singh
It is not the first season where Suryakumar Yadav has impressed the cricket fraternity with his class batting. Since his joining in Mumbai, he has been topping the charts scoring a lot of runs. He amassed 512 and 424 runs in the 2018 and 2019 season respectively to etch his mark. Talking about his batting style, Harbhajan Singh pointed out the different kind of shots he plays and also felt Surya should’ve gone to Australia.
“It is difficult to stop him, as he has all types of shots. He hits overs covers, plays the sweep also well, plays spin very well, plays fast bowling amazingly well. He is the Indian AB de Villiers. I feel he should have been selected for the Indian team. It didn’t happen, but he is not far away. He is an unbelievable player,” he added.
Team India is set to lock horns against Australia from November 27 with the ODI series and are also set to play three T20Is and four Tests on the tour.
