Mohammad Shahzad has recently been suspended by the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) for a year. The harsh punishment was meted out to him as he breached some conduct of conduct, the details of which weren’t revealed by the cricket board. The discipline committee of the board put forth the decision and Shahzad won’t be able to take part in any form of cricket.
Shahzad has been grabbing the headlines for quite some time now. During the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales, he played a few games and thereafter, it was known that he had been ruled out due to an injury. Teenage keeper Ikram Ali Khil was called upon as his replacement. After the sudden omission, Shahzad vented his frustration, saying that he was absolutely fit to play.
Shahzad hurled allegations at the board officials
He said that he was unfairly sent back home. As per the hulk-like cricketer, only the captain, Gulbadin Naib, the coach, and the manager knew about him being ruled out. The rest of the members of the team were utterly shocked. A dejected and hurt Shahzad hurled some serious accusations at the board, stating that some of the board officials conspired against him.
He was earlier suspended for an indefinite period and Shahzad’s outburst wouldn’t have gone done well with the board, who decided to suspend him for a year. Afghanistan are next scheduled to play Bangladesh in a one-off Test next month in Chattogram followed by a T20I tri-series, involving the hosts and Zimbabwe. Later this year, the Afghans will also host the Windies in Dehradun.
Hence, Shahzad will be missing out on quite some cricket in the next 12 months or so. Afghanistan will be playing the T20 World Cup in Australia next year and Shahzad will be very desperate to make his way into the team for the tournament. In the meantime, rumors were doing the rounds on social media that he had taken some rough steps after being slapped with the suspension.
A number of people blamed the 31-year-old for ending his career by his own hands, tearing apart his Afghanistan passport. However, he has opened up on the matter, releasing a video. In the clip, he showed both his expired and new Afghanistan passport. He also showed great composure in the clip.
